“CATALIN CREATIONS BY LAINS” – LIMITED EDITION BANGLES

In the summer of 2001, Dan and Penny Lains announced to members of the Vintage Fashion Costume Jewelry (VFCJ) members that they were going to be producing limited bangles from Catalin and Bakelite stock remaining from the family business, LAMACO – The Lains Manufacturing Company which distributed Catlin in 1939-42, closing when the war began. The located material had been stored by the family for 60 years. Catalin was developed in 1927 by the American Catalin Corporation as a brand of thermosetting polymer. This followed the expiration of the Bakelite patent.

These pieces were purchased new at the convention (and a few months afterwards) by my late-bride from the Lains. Simply enjoyed, and ever worn prior to her passing in 2008, and in storage since. I have the signed provenance certificates for the Black numbers 1 and 2. Penny Lains promised to send the paperwork for the red bangle, but either that never happened, or was misplaced. Outside diameter about 3 7/16, inside diameter about 2 5/8, wall thickness about 3/8 inch, height about 3/16 for the black bangles and 3/8 inches about for the red.
