An unbound portfolio of loose leaves with reproductions of print, painting and engraving works by Jean Pillement. Each image is titled in French. This second series / edition begins with a folded sheet (about 11 5/8 by 15 5/8 inches) with title at top of page one followed by a, brief essay, and on page four a listing of plates – titles and number. All are printed on a heavy quality paper with two to four (a few have more) images, per sheet. This portfolio has 85 plates as called for (collated and all present) plates also about 11 5/8 by 15 5/8 inches. Majority of the plates are black and white with four (4) in color. UNCOMMON – WorldCAT (of library materials) only lists six copies.

Jean-Baptiste Pillement (1728-1808) worked in many mediums, but is best known for his Rococo designs and landscapes. Many of his designs were translated into textiles and reproduced as engravings, influencing much of Europe with his exquisite detailed and romantic images of “chinoiserie” and the Rococo style.
